Our Story

Hops & Pie opened as a neighborhood pizza and craft beer joint on Denver’s Tennyson Street in September 2010 by two people who love food, beverage, the industry, community and each other.

Drew and Leah Watson spent years running fine dining restaurants in California, including Sonoma/Napa Valley area and San Diego County, before hanging up their starchy chef coats for a more laid back atmosphere and a restaurant of their own.

The two sold all of their possessions, borrowed money wherever they could get it and set out to open their own shop in beautiful Colorado. Over the years, Hops & Pie has doubled size, buying the space next door. The restaurant grew from a six-person team and 34 seats to more than 30 teammates and 84 seats. In February 2020, the team opened up Berkeley Donuts inside Hops & Pie as Denver’s only potato-style donut shop.

Today, Hops & Pie serves slices, traditional, pan, Detroit-style and gluten-free pies, sandwiches with house smoked meats, salads made with local ingredients and seasonal specials alongside a frequently rotating craft beer tap list.

Despite the changes, Hops & Pie stays true to its day one values: scratch made food, true craft beer and welcoming hospitality.
